Ninja Crispi 4-in-1 glass air fryer Green FN101SG

An Evaluation of the Green Ninja Crispi Glass 4-in-1 Air Fryer (FN101SG).

Before I bought a glass air fryer, I assumed the glass part was a gimmick. A see-through basket. Cute. The kind of feature that photographs well and changes nothing about dinner.

Then I used one for a month, and the thing I was wrong about was not the visibility. The visibility is nice. The thing I was wrong about was how much I had been tolerating non-stick anxiety without noticing it.

Every coated basket I had owned came with a quiet background worry. Is the coating wearing thin. Did I scratch it with the tongs. What happens at high heat over two years. I never thought about it consciously, it was just there, like a faint hum. Glass turned the hum off. There is nothing to wear off. Nothing to scratch through. The container is the container.

That sounds like a small thing. It was not a small thing.

What I got wrong about glass, specifically

I thought it would be fragile in a way that made daily use stressful. I pictured myself handling it like a museum artifact, flinching every time it clinked.

In practice, it is a thick, heavy piece of cookware. It feels substantial, not delicate. Yes, it can break if you drop it on tile, and yes, thermal shock is real, do not plunge it from screaming hot into cold water. But normal use, in and out of the fryer, onto the counter, into the dishwasher, is completely uneventful. I was careful for the first week. By week three I was treating it like any other dish.

The weight is the real adjustment. A 4-quart glass container full of food has heft. If you have wrist issues or you are buying for an older parent, this matters. A coated aluminum basket is light. Glass is not. That is the honest trade nobody mentions in the PFAS-free celebration.

The 4-quart question

The Crispi FN101SG is a 4-quart system with a smaller 6-cup container included. Four quarts is the one-to-two person zone, or the side-dish zone for a family. It will not cook dinner for four adults in one go. It will cook a very good dinner for two.

The two-container setup is smarter than it looks. The 6-cup is for single servings, reheating, small sides. The 4-quart is the main event. Both have storage lids, which means leftovers go from fryer to fridge in the same vessel. That is one fewer dish to wash, and over a year of cooking, one fewer dish per meal is a meaningful quality-of-life improvement.

The containers are also microwave, freezer, and dishwasher safe. The microwave part is the sleeper feature. Reheat last night’s leftovers in the same glass container, then crisp the top in the fryer. No plastic containers, no transfer dishes. I did not expect to care about this. I care about this.

1500 watts and the 450-degree ceiling

The unit runs 1500W with a max temp of 450 degrees. That is proper air fryer power, not the underpowered kind that steams your food and calls it crispy. Max Crisp at 450 is doing real work.

Four functions: Max Crisp, Air Fry, Bake, Recrisp. Fewer buttons than the 6-in-1 models, and I consider that a feature. The function inflation on some fryers is out of control. Bake on an air fryer is air fry with a different temperature curve. Having four honest functions beats having nine where five are duplicates.

Where it sits in the Crispi family

Ninja now has three Crispi tiers and they are easy to confuse. The 4-in-1 here is the compact one, 4 quarts, portable-ish, the everyday driver. The Crispi Pro steps up to 6 quarts and 6 functions for families. The Crispi DualZone adds a second glass zone for two-temperature cooking.

Which one you want depends entirely on household size and whether you cook two things at once. For my two-person kitchen, the 4-in-1 is the right size. A family of four should skip straight to the Pro. Buying the small one for a big household is how you learn the batching lesson.

The coating conversation, from someone who stopped having it

Ceramic coatings are the middle ground most fryers occupy. PFAS-free, non-stick, good for a year or two of heavy use, then gradually less non-stick. Stainless is indestructible and sticky. Glass is the only option with no degradation curve at all.

That is the thing I keep coming back to. Every other cooking surface in this category is a countdown. Coatings count down to sticky. Even good ones. Glass just is. In year three it cooks like year one, assuming you have not dropped it, which brings us back to the tile floor.

Is glass heavier. Yes. Is it more fragile than metal. Yes. Does it retain heat a little differently, so your first few cooks need slight time adjustments. Yes, I noticed that. Nothing dramatic, just a learning curve of a few meals.

The sage green, since you are wondering

It comes in green. Sage, specifically. Not a loud green, a muted earthy one. My kitchen has no green in it whatsoever and I like it anyway. It looks less like an appliance and more like something from a pottery studio. The Ninja AF101 in grey is the safe choice. The green is the choice for people who are tired of safe choices.

Ninja Crispi glass containers with storage lids

Here is my unresolved bit. I love cooking in glass. I am still slightly nervous about the long-term replacement economics, because if a container does crack in year three, the replacement price determines whether this was a good purchase or an expensive lesson. Ninja sells the containers separately, which is good. I have not had to buy one, which is better.

The hum is still off. That part I am sure about.
